The social side of running

There are many different schools of thought regarding the enjoyment factor of running. Even if they don’t enjoy it, there are runners (like the British) who persevere regardless. Yet much can be done to enhance the experience. On the whole, 70% of European runners prefer to run alone, but these figures vary greatly when we take a look at each individual country. This section looks at the social side of running, from partners to music and when to where.

Belgian runners tend to prefer running on their own (only 52% - the second lowest figure – like to run with others) A third of Belgians never listen to music whilst running, yet of those who do, 21% (the second highest percentage) believe music helps them run faster, and 46% (the highest percentage) believe it helps them run for longer. The preferred running spots for the Belgians are the forest (38%), the streets (35%), and the park (33%).
