How often do you run?
Most runners are serious in their attitude to running. Only 20% run less than once a week. Young runners (under 55) are less disciplined, with 30% running less than once a week while older runners (between 55 and 65 years of age) are more serious, with only 14% running less than once a week.
However, the differences between countries are, yet again, quite significant. The ambitious Italian runners, for example, run almost double the amount of the more joie-de-vivre French.

There are some people who run almost every day and again the difference is seen per country, with Spain and Italy boasting the most, and The Netherlands and Belgium having the least.

Approximately one in every four French and German runners takes it easy compared to only one in ten Italian runners. Easy runners (once in two weeks or less)

Distance and Time
Of course, it’s not only about how often runners run, but also how far. On average, German and French runners run an average of 0.7km further and 4 minutes longer than their counterparts. For the French, this is an interesting twist as they run less often.
On average, European runners run 33 minutes each time they go out. Men run 37 minutes, while women run 30. The British run the least distance (5.1km) and for the least time (28 minutes). (men: 31 minutes; women: 26 minutes)
The difference in distances between European men and European women are also quite considerable, with an average of 6.7km for men against 5km for women. However, when we compare the specific figures the each country against each other, we come up with some interesting results. Take for example German women and British men; German women run 5.6km whereas British men only run 5.3km, so if a British man happens to find himself running while on holiday in Germany, he may well find himself being outrun by his German female counterpart!
